The guitar is one of the most versatile instruments, and it has accompanied classical icons and rockstars for as long as we can remember. But fun as it sounds, there’s a lot that goes into learning the guitar — the proper way to hold, strum, and express a song. Plus, different genres would require different techniques.

Whether your student is into pop, classical, jazz, rock, or folk, the instructors at Liberty Music Academy will teach them to play guitar, showing the difference between simply strumming and making music. If they want to rock like Jimi Hendrix or play the softest worship songs, we’ll take the right approach to reach their goals. Our guitar teachers tailor every lesson we conduct in Collin County!

And we keep lessons fun. There’s no pressure to do well right away — we understand that students have a learning curve. What’s important is we keep the passion alive and make sure your student is having a great time.

Guitar Lesson

Is there a proper age to start learning the guitar?

There’s no proper age to start learning the guitar, but generally, students under six years old find it difficult to hold and strum a guitar. Physical strength and dexterity are factors, but we would love to help navigate through options and make suggestions together!

How do I know my student is learning?

We don’t follow rigid grading systems, but we pay special attention to the speed of each student’s progress. After some time, your student should be able to play their favorite songs. We also emphasize heavily the importance of practice!

Liberty Music Academy offers beginner guitar lessons to students in and around Collin County, TX under our seasoned instructors; watchful eye.

Our teachers introduce students to the whimsical world of the guitar, teaching them the basics — holding the guitar, its parts, how to make sure it’s tuned. Your student will learn the system to use for their fingers, the frets, the strings, and the chords. The first strums lead to the first song, and before you know it, your student will be jamming along to their favorite tunes.

If your student has mastered the basics, it’s time to hone their skills further. In Intermediate lessons, your student will learn more difficult chords to create smoother transitions. They will also learn more sophisticated strumming patterns, different finger styles, and faster rhythms. Students will have a firm grasp of music theory, which will enable them to understand patterns, improvise, and train their ears.

What are the lesson rates for my student?

Our lesson rates just really depend on the needs of each individual student. Whether you are looking for 30 or 60 minute lessons, in-home or online, etc. We highly recommend contacting our office to learn more, and or registering your student for a trial lesson. This will allow all students and families the opportunity to gain more information, an idea as to whether or not music lessons are something they like and or want, with no obligation to continue lessons on a weekly basis.

On which days can I schedule my weekly lessons?

We do our very best to accommodate all of our student's schedules. If you are a new student without a current schedule, you can contact our office and get your lessons booked on a schedule that fits you best. If you are a current student needing to switch your schedule, you can either contact our office to make the adjustment or discuss the available options/availability with your teacher.

How does payment work? Am I required to sign a contract?

We focus on making payment as convenient and accommodating as possible for all of our students and families. All billing is done on the 1st of every month. When students join our academy in the middle of the month, we do prorate lessons for the remainder of the month. There is a one-time $30 registration fee per family, and the best part...no contract or commitment. All we ask is that you provide us with at least 30-days notice prior to cancellation. You can complete this form on our website.

How long should my student be practicing daily/weekly?

Practice time should not be measured by how long a student is practicing, but instead measured by how productive a student is during their practice time. If a student a playing a song over and over for 2 hours without breaking measures down and fixing errors, their practice could be doing them more struggle and frustration than productive help. Additional questions about practice should be discussed with your student's teacher/instructor.

What happens if I can't make my scheduled lesson?

At Liberty Music Academy, we know things happen! For this reason, we do provide make-up lessons/credit for students who miss a scheduled lesson. In order to receive a make-up lesson, we just ask that you notify our office/teacher about your absence at least 24-hours in advance. If a make-up lesson becomes unavailable, you will be credited for the upcoming months' lessons.
